My first c section was in 1987 to a prem baby of 32 weeks. He was small and not growing but is now a healthy 19 year old. My 2nd c section was in 2004 after a vaginal birth in 2002. I've also had 3 miscarriages in between full term pregancies.
2002 - Long labour, no pain relief and gave birth in op theatre whilst arguing with the aneathatist trying to give me an epidural as the medical team (apart from midwife) had all agreed on another section. I have also had another vbac in 2005 much to the annoyance of my consultant who was actually pestering me throughout labour to sign consent form for a section.
Yes I had to choose as there is no positive information to help you. my consultant quoted this and that on the benefits of a section, didn't actually show me anything. I really felt like I was just a womb and what I said wasn't at all relevant. I could understand what the dangers are and took all the information on board, but there is no choice and I had to stand my ground, when I should have had support. I would say to anyone thinking about a vbac look at all your options, if there are complications in labour when you're in hospital the medical team are there to respond, but we do know our own capabilities and we should have the right to choose. Anyway I'm pregnant with baby no:5 at 38 and now I'm choosing a home birth (husband not pleased). My midwife is fantastic and is supporting me 100%, haven't spoke to consultant yet, but it should be an interesting chat. All my children are healthy and well.
