Jenna's Caesarean and VBAC Story

Jenna's Emergency Caesarean (2004)

Throughout my pregnancy for my son the doctors and midwives were constantly saying I had a HUGE baby on board. I had growth scans etc and they said he would be between 10 and 11 pounds which is very big for first babe. My consultant at the time had put in my notes if I did not progress fast enough in labour to preform a c section. I went 9 days overdue. After having a sweep I went in to labour by myself after my waters breaking and went into hospital and was found to be dilating. The contractions started and I was dilating about a centimetre an hour which was correct. I had epidural at 4cm as my son was back to back and being a big baby it was very painfull. I had to stay on the bed in labour and when I finally reached 10 cms I started to push for about an hour but my son was not coming down. They said his head was turned the wrong way and he was too high up so I ended up having a c section and he was born at 8.45pm weighing 8lb 9 oz not 10/11lb like they said! It was a very tiring experience after going through about 12 hours of labour then having to have a c section! The recovery was painfull but we got their in the end.

Jenna's VBAC

I was 3 days overdue and I had a show at 3am. I was not sure if my waters had gone or not as their was so much of it! I rang the hospital and they said to come in to see if it was the waters. I went in and got examined and they said no the waters are still there I'd had a show. I was getting slight contractions but they were irregular, some still quite painfull! I got told to go home have a bath and relax and to come back in when contractions are stronger and 10 mins apart. At 8 am they were strong so I went back in and was found to be 2cm at 9.30am! I was being monitored and walking around breathing with each contraction. They were getting closer and stronger very quickly. 2 hours later I was 7cm! I was in a lot of pain and wanted a epidural. The anaethatist come in to give it but it was too late i wanted to push so I got back on the bed with just gas and air and pushed my little girl out in 30 mins weighing 8lb 1oz! I needed 2 stitches and I felt great!

Jenna's Thoughts on Having a VBAC

Go for it! I worried all through my pregnancy about my scar and I wish I hadn't. I still find it hard to believe I did it but I have! I had her in 4 hours of going back in without any drugs and I would recommend it to anyone reading this who is considering a VBAC.
